This news has been in the air for quite some time and it was believed that the “S” added with 5 in “iPhone 5s” would stand for safety and security. A lot of people assumed that Apple was after the company’s minute “Smart Sensor,” this feature made iPhone debut as the new “Touch ID.”
What is Touch ID?
Let us portray the real picture of Touch ID, its 170 microns thin, senses 550 ppi, and has the ability to scan one’s sub-epidermal skin layers with 360-degree readability. The mechanism is like that the apparatus within the iPhone 5s consists of a tactile switch, Touch ID sensor, a stainless-steel detection ring and a laser-cut sapphire crystal, which is unscratchable. Touch ID is capable of handling multiple fingerprints i.e. up to five individual prints so you can restrict only a certain number of people to use your phone.

The company claims that users shall not worry about their fingerprints being hacked or stolen from their phone. The iPhone 5s itself can’t reveal the fingerprint data to other devices or the cloud; the part responsible for accommodating the fingerprint information in the iPhone 5S just tells the other half of the processor whether or not the sensor can validate the identity of the person who has placed the finger on the sensor. Once you use the system, you will know that it not only secure and also quite fast detecting finger prints. The Touch ID works quite instantly and once you get used to it, it is even hard imagining the previous “swiping to unlock”.
Is Touch ID Really that Secure?
According to Apple, one of the reasons that Touch ID is such an effective security feature on the iPhone 5S is because that it is not the only security feature offered on the phone, it is important that you also must also set up a passcode on your device, and you must use that passcode in a number of circumstances. Now you might be SURPRISED, Apple launched a device with high expectations to secure their new iPhone 5S which was intended to attract consumers but got HACKED just after two days of the launch by a group of German hackers. Isn’t that shocking? It is, however, it’s a fact. The hackers very boldly asserted that the biometrics used by iPhone to access control is not suitable. The group known as Chaos Computer Club (CCC) reveals the break of Touch ID, they claim it is quite easy, capture fingerprint image of the phone user from a glass and form a fake finger to break Touch ID of iPhone 5S. But in the end we still consider it a good effort the company has put in, in order to provide defense against the misuse of one’s phone.
