One of the first problems I had when I moved over to wordpress was post auto summary on index pages and thumbnails. All my posts appeared in full on the homepage and label pages. There was a section in my theme settings where this can be controlled but due to some unknown reasons, the theme settings didn’t generate that auto summary I so much wanted. Being a wordpress newbie, I messed around with the settings with no luck. I even used some plugins that never worked too as posts appeared full screen on index pages without thumbnails.
It wasn’t until I stumbled across a plugin called Auto Excerpt Everywhere till the issue became half solved. I was finally able to have those posts summary generated automatically.
Auto Excerpt everywhere also has a feature that allows you to define the size of your thumbnails but that didn’t work for me. I later found out that images on external domains like blogspot can’t be used as thumbnails on wordpress. I was like what the heck! Almost 300 blog posts won’t have thumbnails on excerpts?!
I kept searching till I found this cool plugin, Generate Post Thumbnails. This plugin looks for the first image on your imported blog posts, resizes them and use them as your post thumbnail.
Simply install the plugin, go to Tools and generate the thumbnails. This is extremely useful if you just moved to wordpress from blogger and wish to use the images hosted on blogger as thumbnails on your wordpress blog posts.
