The moment I saw this, I thought it was just a typo or some sort of joke. 41MP in a mobile phone? Well, if you’re a photography freak, this might be your dream phone. Nokia just announced its 808 Pureview which is one of the most astounding surprises at the Mobile World Congress. Of course, Critics have something to say about the design and bogus camera but I do believe is quite a laudable innovation. Nokia 808 PureView HD which is Nokia N8 successor comes with a crazy 41 megapixels ( Carl Zeiss, over-sampling technology), 1.3 GHz CPU, a 4-inch, 360 x 640 pixel screen, 512 MB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.
With very tight competition from iOS and Android, you have to come up with something quite innovative to stay alive in the smartphone market. Nokia realized this and went from S60V5 to Symbian ^1, released Symbian ^3 in no time and eventually Symbian Anna. You’d think it would stop there but the emergence of Maemo OS, Meego and Symbian Belle OS which now comes with most newly released Nokia smartphones changed that general belief that Nokia is losing it. Below is a video recorded with Nokia 808 PureView courtesy of Znokia.
Did you see just how clean the video looks?
Nokia 808 comes with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. It has an internal memory of 16GB and supports up to 32 GB SD card external memory. You’re definitely going to need that to store those heavy HD pictures and videos. It’s expected to be released by May 2012 and the esimated price is €450.
