Over three weeks ago, Facebook introduced notification sound that alerts you each time you have a new interaction on the social network. Audio alerts used to be for chat only but Facebook started testing this notification sound late last year and finally pushed it through on January 28. It quite cool as it lets you know when something happens on Facebook even when you’re not on the site but for someone like me, it’s one hell of a distraction.

Even when I’m busy doing other stuffs, this haunting sound keeps beeping every now and then forcing me to check what’s happening on Facebook… a new comment, like, wall post and so on. A few days ago, I decided to check the settings and see if I could turn it off. I got it turned off eventually because I get a lot of notifications and that sound coming on every now and then was getting annoying.
– Click on the settings icon at the top right and go to Account Settings
– Select Notifications from the links on the left, then on How You Get Notifications section, click on View on the setting named “On Facebook”
– This expands the settings and you should uncheck the box and click “Save Changes.”
That should fix that annoyingly distracting sound. Hey, I’m not saying it’s not a welcome change but I personally just don’t like it. Do you actually like that sound calling you to come back to Facebook even when you’ve got other important things to do online?
