I’ve been dealing with this issue since I started using Windows 8 and each time my notebook is running on battery, the display is always messed up. It’s not about the brightness because I can easily increase or decrease it at will, the problem has to do with the display itself getting so whitened that I could hardly see the scroll bar on my browser.
Some websites with gray backgrounds even turn white at times and this only happens when I’m running on battery, never on AC. I’ve tried running search queries about this problem but it seemed no one was talking about it. Nothing relevant came up and I started wondering if it’s just a problem peculiar to my machine alone.
In my quest to find a fix, I did a little adjustment that fixed the whole thing. If you’re facing this kind of issue, you can follow this simple guide to fix the problem and prevent your display from whitening when running on battery:
1. Go to Control Panel by right-clicking on the bottom-left corner
2. Type display in the search box and click on “Calibrate display color”
3. Hit the Next button till you’re shown the Gamma settings. You can set this to the lowest possible value.
4. Keep hitting the Next button till you’re shown the ClearType Tuner to adjust the way text is displayed.
This is a matter or personal preference, you may set it as you wish but it’s advisable to carefully choose what suits you best.
Adjusting Gamma only should fix the whitened display when running on battery
