With a large picture of my ugly face in the background, I’ve always loved my twitter page because it allows me to personalize it to my taste, change text and link colors and mimic my blog’s theme. Apart from the social aspect of it, Twitter is a great marketing tool and customizing your profile the right way can send a message to your potential customers.
On Sept. 18, Twitter announced the new header image for profiles on it’s official blog and it was greeted with positive reactions. Personally, I like the idea and it makes the place a lot better than before. As announced on the blog post,
You can upload your header photo, which appears above your Tweets, to express yourself instantly, anywhere.
The old background image is still there and you are allowed to use the two. Being a formerly text based social network, Twitter is now becoming more graphical in its bid to create something similar to Facebook cover photo and Google+ header image.
Creating the perfect Twitter Header image
Twitter recommends using an image of 1200×600 pixels but this is not necessary. The major thing is to make sure your width is twice the length. I recommend using an image or 520×260 since it’s what I use and it looks great. You can create a custom image using Photoshop or paint.NET. You can as well google out stock images to use.
You can download free twitter headers from FreeTwitterHeaders or create your own using this online tool at TwitBacks. If you’re not so good at graphic designs, this tool can be very helpful as it lets you add a bio about you to the image. You can as well add your logo and other social network links.
What’s the right dimension for Twitter background image
There’ no specific dimension but I think it looks best if you use an image of 1400×800 pixels. It’s what I use and looks good at most screen resolutions. TwitBack earlier mentioned also has a Twitter background image designer tool and you may also check out FreeTwitterDesigner.
