Tecno L9 Plus has proven to be one great device to have as I’ve been with it for almost two weeks. With the rather epileptic power supply in my location, using this device as my daily driver since has made me stay connected even with power outage for almost two days.
Almost every worth mentioning has been touched in the review but I think a few important points was left out. A lot has been said about the 5,000mAh battery, but how does this perform in real life?
Real life battery experience
For the first time in a long time, I’m holding I phone I could abuse for the whole day without necessarily recharging. Whether you’re a gamer, a social media junkie or you are addicted to watching videos on your mobile device, Tecno L9 Plus gives you the much-needed battery capacity that keeps your gadget powered.
The unique selling point is the battery and Tecno L9 Plus really delivers. While the processor may not be the fastest in the market, I’m assuming the use of a low power chip on this device might be a way to further reduce battery usage. To be honest though, you may not really get three days battery life out of this device with regular use unless you actually know how to effectively manage power.
I was able to squeeze 48 hours. I was using WiFi mostly (as it is generally known that 3G consumes battery faster) and during this time, I kept the connection turned off when not in use. Plus, I kept my eye on the battery meter and switched to Ultra Power mode as soon as the battery hit 20%. This still got me up to 6 hours of use.
The battery stayed on for 16 hours 48 minutes in the battery loop test done during the review, a record yet to be seen with any device reviewed on this blog. The phone charges full in less than 2 hours when powered off and it takes just slightly over 2 hours when it’s on. Thankfully, the Quick Charge feature takes it to 35% in 30 minutes and this should last for almost a day if not abused.
Have I been impressed so far with the L9 Plus? The answer to that is pretty obvious.
Using the “Super button” for power saving
On the left side of the phone is a button I didn’t consider much important at first. One might assume it’s the shutter button for the camera at first, but a look at the settings revealed more. This button can be customized to activate the torch or camera.
I found a much better use for it anyway. Using this button to activate Ultra Power Saving mode might be the best decision. Every night before going to bed, using this button to activate ultra power saving mode keeps the battery juice (almost) untouched till the morning. I sometimes use it during the day too when and other functionalities are not needed except telephoning and messaging.
If you hate getting cut off, moving around with your charger, carrying a power bank all day or “managing” your battery juice, Tecno L9 Plus might just be the perfect device for you.
