With Blackberry out of the Running, Who will Eventually Dominate?

With Blackberry out of the Running, Who will Eventually Dominate?

October 22, 2013

Once upon a time, Blackberry was one of the leading handset providers throughout the world. They were known for being a social device with BBM and great for business professionals. Since then it has been a downward spiral for the company and 2013 seems to be the year that they have finally accepted defeat. So with Blackberry out of the running, which company will eventually dominate the mobile market?

Could it be Apple?

With this year’s release of two new iPhones, Apple does not seem to be slowing down in a bid to dominate. However, the 5c model has replaced the original 5 and the stores are no longer selling them. Could this be because there were so many issues with the handset from the outset? Or perhaps they just felt that the colourful version was more appealing?

Whatever the reasoning for the 5c, the 5s model has flown off the shelves and cannot be distributed quickly enough. Some people are waiting over a month for their delivery and in the opening weekend of both handsets going on sale, over 9 million units were sold. But with iOS being further behind in some aspects compare to other platforms, will the market eventually transfer over to other devices?

 How about Samsung?

With the Galaxy S4 receiving great reviews, as well as the Note 3, Samsung definitely seem to be upping their game in terms of quality and performance. Since 1993, Samsung have been a key player within the mobile market, producing affordable phones that appeal to a wide range of customers. They always seem to have been a constant within the industry, but will this ever change?

As a company, they have always kept their mobile products up to a good standard, but never quite been able to be dominant. They seem to be coming close with the wide success of the Galaxy S4, but do they have the aggression to take over?

 Maybe HTC?

Although HTC is a company that has been around for years, it has only recently become a major player in the race for mobile domination. However, although models such as the HTC One have received a large amount of attention, the hype seems to be decreasing very quickly. It was reported in October 2013 that HTC were to experience their first ever loss during the third-quarter. This does not bode well for their aim to be a key player in the market. It is looking highly unlikely that the likes of Samsung and Apple need to be concerned at this stage of a dark horse overtaking.

Will Nokia be the one?

As with Samsung, Nokia has always been a fairly constant provider within the mobile market. However, they have never been able to achieve the sales figures quite like some of the other competitors and have seemed to lack behind dramatically in the smartphone market.

In conclusion…

So to summarise, Nokia have never particularly been in the running and HTC are now running out of steam. This leaves the two big guys Apple and Samsung left in the ring. But who will make it to the top? At the minute it looks 50/50 as Apple have released new models to tackle Samsung’s S4, but how long that will hold up, only time will tell.
