Media.net Review: A Real PPC Program or just a Scam?

Media.net Review: A Real PPC Program or just a Scam?

Wale Adekile
June 7, 2013

Last month, I read a review on a website that got me very skeptical about Media.net (also known as Yahoo Bing Advertising Network) and I was worried my earnings for the month of April would be gone with the wind. I started using Media.Net in the month of April, 8th precisely and before  20th of April, I crossed their payout threshold of $100. It’s almost as good as Google Adsense and the good thing about it that actually makes me like it is the fact that it allows me monetize my mobile traffic effectively unlike Google Adsense.

media.net

Although Media.net doesn’t provide details like CPC and CTR like Google Adsense, the only thing you see on your dashboard is RPM and impressions which makes a lot of people assume they pay per impression only.  Anyway, on the 4th of this month, I got my earnings for the month of April and I can tell you that Media.net actually works. The money was paid directly to my domiciliary account.

Why Media.net doesn’t work for everyone

Just because this PPC program works for me doesn’t mean it works for everyone and this explains the negative reviews you’ve probably seen on the internet. I’ve heard of cases where all you get is $0.00 RPM and I know how badly this sucks. Here are certain things I believe Media.net (like other PPC programs) may not work for some people:

  1. You need a lot of traffic to actually make this thing work. A few hundred page views daily isn’t gonna get you nowhere.
  2. A high percentage of your visitors must be from the US, UK and Canada. This is a problem for most of us when it comes to making any good out of Media.net and I think they actually need to adjust this strict rule.
  3. As stated on this post about Google Adsense, if your visitors are mostly bloggers, webmasters and tech savvy people who recognize an advert when the see one, PPC most likely won’t work for you.

These points above are just my speculations but believe me, I doubt if I’m wrong.

Getting Suspended for Low Quality Traffic?

I almost got my account suspended but luckily, I was given a warning with a 72 hour grace to work on my traffic source. A week before reaching my first payout, I received an email from Media.net compliance team saying I’m generating a lot of low quality traffic and I was like WTT?! So, all the bad s**t  people say about these guys is actually true! I thought I was gonna lose all my earnings and was very worried.

I then took some time to figure out what they actually meant by low quality traffic… about 70% of my traffic comes from search engines so what the hell are these guys talking about? It then dawned on me that my web forum was likely to be the problem; most of the visitors on that forum are from Africa, Asia and Middle East and then again, it’s about 60% direct traffic. I decided to remove all Media.net ads from the forum and them mailed them stating the steps I’ve taken.

Eventually, I got my payment and weeks after that scary mail, my account is still active and I’m scheduled to get another payment when the month ends.

Better than Adsense?

In some sense, maybe yes but not completely. The fact that each publisher has an account manager to work with is a plus and I really like that. You’ve got to be earning 25 Euros weekly from Adsense before you have access to direct email support. And when you talk about the earnings, I really can’t say which pays better. It’s hard to judge… I can only say it’s almost as good as Adsense though other people may have a different point of view.

Conclusion

I’m not saying the negative reviews about this PPC program is all made up, it probably doesn’t work for everyone but it works for me and the earning isn’t that bad. If you’re having a hard time getting Google Adsense approval, you may want to give it a shot.

Are you presently using Yahoo Bing Advertising network? What has your experience been like?
