Maximizing Your Profits: Tips to Increase Conversion Rates

Maximizing Your Profits: Tips to Increase Conversion Rates

As an ecommerce website owner, you know that a high conversion rate is critical for the success of your business. If you’ve noticed your profits have plateaued or worse, it’s time to increase conversion rates on your website. A lot of ecommerce owners worry about the number of impressions or visitors they have on their site. While it’s true you need traffic to get sales, what you should consider yourself with is how many of those visitors actually buy and how many move on.

Converting the visitors you have into buyers is far more effective than spending time getting more visitors — and the return on that investment is much more profitable.

Sell the Benefits to the Customer

Customers want to know how your products/services will benefit them. You need to explain to the visitor why your products/services are better than the rest, how it will make their life easier and what problems it will solve. The best way to do that is to have bullet points or selling points highlighted on your ecommerce site. For example, you offer an accounting program for freelancers that makes it easy to track expenses, print records for tax time, and even file taxes using forms for the self-employed. Your bullet points should be something that includes:

  • Quick and easy accounting
  • Track expenses
  • Bill accurately, receive payments faster
  • File taxes quick and easy

Showcasing the benefits and making it clear can increase conversion rates faster than any other type of product/service marketing.

Ask for Feedback and Improve

Use social media and feedback forms on your website to ask people for their opinion. Find out what visitors think of your site, what makes them buy and most importantly, what makes them not want to buy from your website. Once you know where you need to improve, you need to take steps to change what turns away customers.

Include customer testimonials and feedback on your website. Because online shoppers like to see positive experiences from fellow online shoppers, showcasing feedback on your site can encourage them to buy from you versus a company without feedback.

Go for a User-Friendly Website

Online shoppers shop online for a reason: they want quick, convenient shopping. Your ecommerce site should be simplified and fast. Some things to consider to make your site more user-friendly can include:

  • A simplified checkout process. Decrease the number of steps required to make a purchase and allow the customer to pick their product, check out and get on with it.
  • A clear, easy to navigate website. Users shouldn’t be confused about where their shopping cart is or how to find products on your site. Use a navigation panel and colors that are easy to see.
  • A website that loads quickly. Check the speed of your website and if it takes too long for pages to load, fix it. Online shoppers are in a hurry; therefore fixing your website’s speed could easily increase conversion rates.

Use Images

Customers want to see what they’re purchasing before they purchase it. Images are one of the best ways to increase conversion rates for ecommerce websites. Have a detailed photo of the product you’re selling. If you’re selling a service, have pictures of you performing the service or a customer receiving that particular service.

Images should be high-quality, which might require you to hire a photographer or media specialist to create photos of your products. Make sure customers can view products from every angle. If you can, include a picture of the product alone and then a picture of the product with someone using it. This helps the customer visualize themselves using the product. For example, if you’re selling a laptop have a picture of the laptop alone, then a picture of the laptop being used.
