It’s such a pity that some high end phones still come with 16/32GB of mobile storage in this 21st century. For one reason or the other, a lot of OEMs release phones with such low memory capacity and one can only wonder if such storage can ever be enough. But let me tell you this, it simply can’t be.
My WhatsApp alone takes a space of 3.58GB, I take photos a lot (about 2GB dedicated to that); a casual video at 720p can take 2GB of storage, and let’s not even discuss that of 1080p FHD videos and other storage-eating activities happening on our devices.
Games can also take close to 5GB of storage or more, so the fact is simple–16GB or even 32GB will never be enough in this modern age where we are mostly addicted to phones and most of our devices have been replaced by handheld mobile phones.
Without much ado, let me provide simple ways in which you can manage 16/32gb on your devices, some of which may not even have memory card slots.
1. Get an External Memory Stick
If you’re into memory cards, getting one will give you more space to work with on your phone. However, you have to be careful in selecting an MMC as there are many counterfeits in the market.
There are memory cards of 32gb, 64gb, 128gb, and even up to 2 terabytes! With this, you easily extend your memory space. However, you should know the maximum external storage capacity your phone supports before buying one.
2. Use the Cloud
Talking about everywhere you go, that’s exactly what the cloud is. Instead of storing your files on phone, you can easily put them in the cloud. This way, you get to access them on all possible devices with internet.
Cloud services like Dropbox, OneDrive, Flickr, and so on can come handy. You can as well upgrade to premium cloud services with higher storage options
3. Reduce Photo Pixels
Unless you’re a professional photographer, 8MP is enough to take sharp photos. The higher the pixels, the higher the photo size which is why it won’t be a bad idea to reduce pixels. After all, it won’t make much difference for casual photos.
4. Reduce Video Resolutions
When taking videos for phones and not for professional use, you don’t need to use 1080p or 4k resolution . Most of the best video players on Android won’t even play videos of 4k resolution. On good cameras, 720p is clear enough for mobile use. This can save you some space.
5. Use USB OTG
USB on-the-go is a good choice for those phones with no memory card slot. You can easily move videos and other media files around on portable USB. Often underutilized, they are the best to take with you. You can as well use multiple flash drives.
Managing a small storage is never easy and nowadays 16GB is not enough. Even 32gb is no longer enough, we may only try to manage them.
