Apple Loses Revenue As Demand For Tomato Increases In Nigeria

Apple Loses Revenue As Demand For Tomato Increases In Nigeria

Olayinka Oladele
May 29, 2016

How the increase in tomato demand shoots Apple in the leg kind of beats me too. Perhaps people in this part of the world are now dedicating their hard-earned money to something price worthy? We’ll find out.

apple--lose-sales-tomato

A long time ago in earthdom, smartphones (iPhones especially) used to be a yardstick for telling how rich or expensive one is – a status symbol. Fast forward to today; it appears that consumers have gotten enough and they want to put a hold on yearly upgrades. Truth be told, global warming is hitting everyone hard [- looking at West Africa and seriously shaking my head-]. An average human in these trying times should be fine with the available options in the market today… well unless S/he still wants something that can PING heaven. Dream on!

The status symbol has shifted….

Apple’s magic is about to hit the rocks as it bows to my observation above. In a recent sales report, Apple experienced a significant decline in revenue – one we haven’t seen in ages.

  • iPhone sales down 16%
  • iPad sales down 19%
  • Mac sales down 9%
  • Revenue down 13%

Who has Apple offended in 2016? If you’d allow me to throw a guess,

  1. Backward innovation ?
  2. Price point?
  3. Unnecessary upgrades?
  4. Pride?

Okay, that’s enough. People are waking up in 2016! The heat is hot enough to melt off veiling ice from millions of folks out there. If you don’t step up your game, you’ll lose out. That’s me advising a company in plain English!

I digress. Right now in Nigeria, people are spending more looking for common tomato. I mean toh-mah-toe is now even more valuable than Apple in that great country. I would rather buy (and keep) 5 baskets of tomato than shelling out the same amount of money for some ‘Apple’; thanks to Tomato Ebola anyway. We cannot predict what the future holds at this time.

Thankfully, there’s some hope for Apple. Services like Apple Pay, Apple Care and products like Beats, Apple Watch, TV, etc. are rewarding the company with increasing revenue.

This isn’t entirely bad news for the company actually but there’s gotta be a super hero idea that can keep Apple strong in the game. How soon will she come up with something fancy? Let’s wait for it!

Really, you don’t have to take my opinion in this post too serious. Coming from someone who has never owned an iPhone or something, I might just be a hater :-p

Or what do you think? Kindly use the comments box.

Agree, disagree, vex. Whatever.

Off to find to find toh-mah-toes.
