Fix: Updates Have Been Suppressed By The Administrator [Adobe Products]

I was trying to set up my new machine over the weekend and installing apps I have running on my older MacBook Pro. Everything was going pretty smooth until I had to install Adobe Lightroom. I installed the application itself successfully, but I ran into a little issue trying to apply an update file. I use an Administrator account on my own computer and I still get an error message suggesting that updates have been suppressed by the Administrator:

Update Failed: Updates could not be applied. Please contact your Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine. Updates have been suppressed bt the Administration. If the problems persists, contact customer support for further assistance.

updates supressed by administrator

If you’re unable to install updates to Adobe products like Lightroom, Photoshop and you have this particular error showing, this little fix might work.

On macOS Sierra

– Launch Finder and go to this location: \Library\Application Support\Adobe\AAMUpdaterinventory\1.0

– Here in this location, you should see a file named AdobeUpdateAdmnPrefs.dat

adobeupdater– Simply delete this file and try updating your Adobe product again.

Updating Adobe Lightroom

It normally should work. It’s was all I did that got the updater running.

On Windows

if you’re facing this issue on Windows, the fix is pretty similar. You need to delete this same file, but it’s in a different location of course. On Windows, you should be able to locate AdobeUpdateAdmnPrefs.dat here:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat

Deleting the file should fix the error.
