If you’re been running EMUI on your Huawei device, you are likely stuck with the default browser and there’s no way to change this. Just like iOS where you have no choice but to use Safari as the system default browser for opening web pages (unless your jailbreak), it’s just the same thing on Huawei’s EMUI and there’s no way to change this from the settings. You can’t decide to use Google Chrome, Firefox or any other third party browser as default for web browsing.
There’s a section in the phone settings where you can set third party applications to perform certain functions but internet browsing isn’t listed:
I even tried clearing defaults for the default browser but nothing happened. I had no choice but to follow these steps:
- Got to Settings > Manage Apps > Browser
- Tap the Disable button.
- Confirm your choice by tapping OK. Don’t worry, nothing should go wrong.
- After disabling, you can try visiting a web page from any of your apps like Facebook and you should be prompted to select a default browser.
As far as I know, this is the only way to get this done on EMUI 3.0. Perhaps things have already changed on EMUI 3.1 but I’m yet to upgrade and I wouldn’t really know.
