The Benefits of Solar Panel Technology

The Benefits of Solar Panel Technology

January 15, 2014

As we continue to use up the Earth’s natural resources at a staggering pace, we are constantly being encouraged to go green. Once upon a time, being environmentally friendly was accompanied by a rather hefty price tag that put a lot of people off.

Thankfully, this has changed and nowadays it can be really cost-efficient to go green. Whether you’re picking up a pad of recycled paper or switching to energy-saving bulbs, it doesn’t cost much to do your bit for the environment. In fact, you could even make money from it.

Solar panels are not a new thing. These specially designed panels absorb sunlight, converting its photons into electrons. These electrons then make their way through the system to the control panel, where they are transformed into DC electricity. An inverter then converts this to AC electricity that can be used throughout the home.

As you are aware, this is an incredibly effective and sustainable way of producing electricity. Of course, in order to start doing so, you will need to cover the cost of the panels themselves, which can be pricey. However, companies like BayWar.e offer the panels at reduced prices, so you could pick up a bargain.

Once you’re all set up, you can start powering your home yourself – but how do we make money from it?

In the UK, the government will actually pay homeowners who generate their own energy through solar panels. This is part of their go green incentive and is an effort to entice more people into living an eco-friendly life. And, with the ‘Big Six’ UK energy providers all announcing price hikes for 2014, it looks like this is a scheme that will grow in popularity.

Once you’re generating electricity, you could find that you’re producing more than you’re using. This doesn’t mean you have to leave all your gadgets on overnight in an attempt to use it all up. Rather, sell it back to the energy companies. In the UK, this is called the Feed-In Tariff and is a great way of capitalising on your new environmentally friendly life.

As you can see, installing solar panels is not only an effective, eco-friendly option: it can also work wonders for your cash flow.
