While getting off the grid by going camping can be enjoyable, there are pieces of technology that can make camping safer while still feeling like you’re able to go off on your own and reconnect with nature.
So to help ensure that your next camping trip doesn’t end with you being stranded in the middle of nowhere or not having access to the essentials of life that you need to survive, here are three pieces of tech you should take with you on your next camping trip.
A GPS Communicator
Ideally, you would never get lost or stranded while you’re off camping. However, by planning for this type of unexpected event, you can be ready to face it if and when it does happen.
To help you with this, Jess Bolluyt, a contributor to CheatSheet.com, recommends that you bring a GPS and some form of communicator with you while you’re off on a camping trip. While your cell phone might work for you if you’re camping somewhere where you’ll have service, if you’re going to somewhere far from civilization, you might need something a little more intense.
If you’re looking for a product that fits the bill, look for something that works off of a satellite network, allows you to see and share your GPS coordinates, and can send out an emergency signal if you need one.
Water Filter
For some people, camping means getting completely away from modern conveniences like running water. However, even if access to water isn’t convenient, you still need it in order to stay safe and healthy.
If you’re going to be relying on natural bodies of water for your main water source while camping, you’ll need to have some way to treat that water so you’re not drinking or using water that could be harmful to you. According to Rachel Cavanaugh, a contributor to Digital Trends, you can find personal filtration systems that can eliminate 99.99 percent of bacteria and parasites as well as not requiring the use of harmful chemicals in order to do it. If you don’t already have something like this, it should be something you look into.
Solar Charger
When out in the wild, you don’t really need the ability to charge too many of your daily devices since you’ll likely be leaving those at home. However, if you find yourself in a dangerous situation, you want to be able to use your devices to get the help you need.
To make this easier, Brandt Ranj, a contributor to Business Insider, recommends that you get a solar charger for any of the devices that you’ll be bringing on your camping trip. This will allow you to charge the items you need without having to worry about other sources of energy or electricity.
If you want to take your camping trips to the next level, consider using the tech mentioned above to help you get there.
