Tecno Mobile has already followed up the largely successful Tecno L9 with an upgrade which we’ve already unboxed. Tecno L9 Plus isn’t just about a bigger battery, you might wonder why it’s not even the “L10” considering the bump in other technical specifications. Tecno claims this device offer 72 hour of uninterrupted performance and this should be true. A 5,000mAh battery on a smartphone is quite a big deal.
If you own a Tecno L9, the L9 Plus offers all the good reasons to upgrade. And if you’ve already been looking out for a “power bank” phone, Tecno L9 Plus might be your perfect match.

First Impressions
When I first saw the specifications online, I had the thought that this 5,000mAh phone would come with a huge bulge at the back. I was actually expecting a pretty thick device but this 6.0-inch device has a thickness of “only” 7.99mm. Considering the high capacity battery inside, it’s quite slim enough.
Like I always say, 6-inch devices are not for everyone and you shouldn’t make a big deal out of it if they don’t fit your hands. For those of us blessed with big hands, we should have no problem handling it.
We have the L9 Plus in gold and it sure looks good. The 5MP camera comes equipped with an LED flash.
Below the screen you have the capacitive soft keys; these are not onscreen and they are not backlit. At the bottom is the centrally placed microUSB port with the speaker grill and microphone opening on either sides of it.
On the right side is the microSD card slot with the volume rocker and power bottom just below it.
On the left side is the dual micro-SIM slots with another button below it. Wondering what this works for, I pushed it and the phone went straight to Ultra-Power mode. Exploring the settings revealed that this “Super Button” can be customized to control the torch, activate camera or control music play.
The top of the phone has the 3.5mm audio jack for your earphones.
The original Tecno L9 didn’t come with a fingerprint sensor but this upgrade sports one. Just above this is the 13MP rear camera with a single LED flash. How well this performs will be seen when we publish the full review.
Here are more pictures we took while unboxing the phone:
This is just a quick look at Tecno L9. We should have the full review after we’ve put the phone to use.
