Tecno Camon C9 was finally launched yesterday, confirming most of the rumors and leaks we previously saw. The device looks just like the leaked images we published a while back and we have a copy already. We unboxed the device earlier today and really, it’s a big upgrade to last year’s Camon C8.
Tecno actually listened to complaints and beefed up the specifications on this latest addition to the Camon product line. The device comes with 2GB RAM and a 1.3GHz octa-core processor. The 5.5-inch screen too has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px.
Along with the smartphone, here are other items found in the box:
- 1 USB cable
- 1 pair of earphones
- 1 charger head
- 1 flip cover
- 1 ejector pin
There are also user manuals and a warranty card. I checked this and read that Tecno will replace your broken screen for free if you break it within 3 months of purchase. This sounds pretty good, anyone with slippery fingers will appreciate this.
The device looks good but a part of me thinks the Camon C8 looks better. Perhaps it’s because of the bulge at the back. The device has a metallic frame and like the Camon C8, there’s a dedicated camera button on the right side.
The first thing you notice about this device is the 13MP front camera that stares right at you from the top-center, just underneath the earpiece. We’ve definitely seen this before on Asus Zenfone Selfie and Innjoo 2.
Some of us still prefer capacitive soft keys because on-screen navigation often feels like it’s taking too much screen space. Backlit capacitive soft keys are present below the screen.
The 13MP back camera too is centered with the dual LED flash just below it. Since this is a photography phone, we will try to take a very objective look at the camera when we do the review in about a week or two.
In case you’re wondering, the back cover is removable but only so you can insert SIM cards and SD card. The battery is not removable.
Tecno Camon C9 has the micro-USB port at the bottom and the earphone jack is right at the top.
The device runs Android Marshmallow with HiOS on top of it. This version looks refined and from the look of it, the icons have gone through a redesign that looks quite good.
We told you in a previous article that this device will let you unlock it with your eyes instead of fingerprint. This is confirmed. Tecno Camon C9 indeed registers “eyeprints” and this is tested working.
The full review of this device will be published after we’ve fully taken if for a spin and we will let you know what makes it great. As always, we will point out flaws we find too.
