Did you see us unbox the new Infinix Zero 2 some days ago? You can see it here in case you missed it. After weeks of teasers that seemed never to end, we finally got hold of the device and it didn’t look any different from what we spotted even before the launch.
Infinix Zero 2 is quite impressive and when compared to the first Infinix Zero, it’s obvious a lot of things has been improved on. Before we go into details, you might be interested in the key specs though we have everything spilled out on this page.

Physical Appearance & Design
If you’re not a sucker for phablets and consider notes rather bulky but prefer slim phones with a pretty designs, Infinix Zero fulfills your need. This phone is light to hold and weighs only 118 grams compared with Infinix Zero weighing about 150g. You can see that’s a lot of difference. It has a thickness of 6.7mm compared to Infinix Zero with 7.9mm, that makes is 30% slimmer.
The Kevlar backcover has a very smooth feel but it’s actually hard. I’m glad this didn’t come with a glass backcover as it can really look messy when badly scratched. The diagonal pattern look quite good too. The backcover isn’t removable, the battery is sealed in.
The front is designed to look simple and cool: no branding, no softkeys. The 5MP front camera sits at the left side of the centered earpiece while the light sensor can be seen on the right.
Another good thing about the design is the speakers’ placement. They’re are at the bottom, not at the back. This means when playing music, placing your phone on a table won’t affect the sound.
On the right side of the phone are the volume controls, the SD card tray and power button are placed above and below it respectively. You have the SIM tray by the right. Don’t worry, you won’t have to choose between using SIM 2 or an SD card, they’re housed differently. The USB port and earpiece jack are placed at the top of the device.
The 13MP primary camera at the back sits at the top-left corner with the LED flash just below it.
Display
This screen size isn’t too big nor too small, at 5.0″, it is considered very moderately big. It is the same size as Infinix Zero. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla glass. It has a resolution of 720x1280p with a display density of 294ppi and the Super Amoled HD Display makes it all better. The display is quite vibrant.
You’re probably asking, “What the hell is the big deal in Super Amoled Display anyway?”
I’ll break it down and make it simple without going into confusing technical terms that’ll have scratching your head or googling further. Super Amoled is a type of Amoled display developed by Samsung.
It integrates a capacitive touchscreen layer directly into the display instead of overlaying it on top of the display as it is normally done. Due to this, the design gets thinner and less battery power is used. Again, there’s less light reflection making it easier to see the display outdoors.
Performance & Operating System
With a 2.0 octa-core processor and a 2GB RAM, Infinix Zero 2 should should run anything you throw at it. It a very fast device and responses easily to touch. Navigation is very fluid and there’s no lagging when used to run heavy games.
Here’s the Antutu benchmark score:
And here’s what I got from Geekbench 3:
And there’s a planned OS upgrade!
Infinix Zero 2 runs Android 4.4.2 but according to a reliable source at Infinix Mobility, there’s a planned upgrade and we may see this device running Android 5.0 Lollipop anytime soon. We weren’t able to get specifics on when exactly this would be though.
Battery
With a 2300mAh, it’s obvious this device will definitely last 24 hours with normal use. In my test, with regular phone calls, text messaging and no internet connection, I still had plenty battery juice after two days and that’s normal. With Facebook, Whatsapp other internet apps installed and in use, I didn’t bother about charging till the next day though I did a lot of optimization.
In short, the battery life is way better than the 1920mAh battery on the Zero debut.
Camera
The 13MP camera produced some nice pictures. And with the 5MP front camera, selfies look quite clear too even indoors and there’s a wide viewing angle.
Here’s a sample shot taken outside very early in the morning:

Connectivity
The device is 3G enabled and for file transfer, it’s bluetooth enabled. The phone can connect through WiFi and can also acts as a WiFi hotspot allowing you to share your connection. The 3G speed goes up to 21MBs downlink and upto 5.76MBs uplink.
Unfortunately, I’m yet to see a mobile network provider in Nigeria providing a connection that can actually attain that speed.
Verdict
Infinix Zero 2 is an awesome device and there’s no doubt about that. It’s pretty fast and the display is brilliant. The design is slim, it isn’t bulky and it’s very light. With the 32GB model, you get quite a lot of space and you can even expand it with a SD card.
I was wondering why it had to come with a 2300mAh battery at first but then, I realized that smaller screens require lower processing power and of course, the Super Amoled display is expected to use less power than normal screens.
