A couple of weeks back, Infinix released a budget phone that got people talking; that’s the Infinix Hot. We took a quick look at the device last week and you can read all about that here. Having used the phone for over a week now, I think it’s about time to do the full review.
Infinix Hot is a budget phone and shouldn’t be compared with high-end devices. Despite being a low-end Android device, it’s surprising to see the device offering some pretty cool features you expect to see on pricier devices.
Physical Appearance and Display
Whatever you intend to do with the device, the 5″ IPS display is quite enough. The display has a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and a pixel density of 196 ppi. The display isn’t bad so to speak but then, we need to be reminded this is a budget phone.
If you’re wondering if the screen is made of Gorilla glass, the answer to that is no. The body is made of plastic and the back-cover (which is removable) has a honeycomb texture that offers some friction when gripped. The phone can’t be particularly described as slim but the point is that you’re less likely to drop it.
The device has the earphone jack and USB port at the top. The power button is placed under the volume controls on the right side.
The 5MP rear camera is placed at the top center while the front-facing camera is at the top-right.
The three softkeys at the bottom have no LED backlight.
The plastic backcover comes majorly in black and white but it has been said that Infinix Hot also has colorful glowing covers although we got the black variant.
Operating System, Storage & Performance
The device runs Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and supports OTA upgrade. It comes with a 1GB RAM and a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It has a Mali-400 MP2 GPU.
Infinix Hot has comes with an internal memory of 16GB and supports SD card up to 32GB.
The phone runs games too smoothly. I installed GTA Vice City and the game play was pretty smooth.
I was expecting the game to lag but it never did.
Camera Quality
The device has a 5MP primary camera with auto-focus. It also has a LED flash for taking pictures in the dark. The front-facing 2MP camera too is quite okay for taking selfies.
Under normal outdoor lighting condition, the 5MP camera is impressive. Although this can’t be compared with images taken with devices like Infinix Zero, it can’t be overemphasized that this is a budget phone.
Here is a picture taken with the device outdoor:
The camera has a feature called “Smart Gesture.” This allows you to take pictures by waving your hand. It also has face detection, smile shot and the camera settings allows you to adjust it to suit most lighting conditions.
Battery
The device has a 2000mAh removable battery. With normal usage, the battery should last the whole day. I tried using it without internet connection for straight two days and I still had about 50% power left. During this time, the device only received calls and messages.
With non-stop heavy use, I was able to use the device for about 6 hours. If you’re a heavy user, you may still need a power bank.
However, the battery performs better than that of Infinix Zero.
Connectivity
The phone is 3G enabled, has WiFi and can be used as WiFi hotspot. As expected, it’s bluetooth enabled. It also has Flashare pre-installed for file transfer between devices over WiFi.
Pre-installed Apps
The device is pre-installed with a bunch of apps like Facebook, BBM, Viber, Opera Mini and others. It also has some games installed but almost all of them are trial apps.

Infinix Hot has a one-year warranty and right now, a forum has been created for Infinix users where you can connect with Infinix Mobile and other Inifinix users.
